How it works (for entrepreneurs)

Students work for one to two different companies during their summer internship. Funding for CEF positions comes primarily from the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital (EVC) Club at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.  Through this partnership, CEF clients are able to obtain the services of CEFs at well below MBA market rates.

Company Participation

Interested companies are encouraged to submit a brief summary of their organization and the project(s) with which they would like assistance from an MBA student.  Companies may submit these summaries during the academic year (August to April).

Student Selection and Training

The selection process for CEFs is rigorous and competitive.  Applications and interviews take place during the winter, typically with four to six MBA’s receiving fellowships.  Students interested in participating in the CEF program will be involved in several activities with the EVC club during the fall semester, including reviewing business plans for NC IDEA, competing in the Venture Capital Investment Competition and receiving general entrepreneurial training.   In the spring, most will take general courses in entrepreneurship, including business plan analysis and venture capital. These activities serve as additional preparation for working with CEF in the summer.
